Skills |  Proofreaders are responsible for reviewing and proofreading both legal and non-legal documents generated by the Document Processing Department, as well as from outside the Firm, for spelling, punctuation, diction and syntax.
Job Responsibilities - Proofreading documents for spelling, diction, punctuation, and grammatical errors; using standard proofreading marks to show what changes must be made on a document; comparing original documents with revised documents to ensure that requested revisions were performed
- Communicating with attorneys regarding specific requests and deadlines
- Interacting with Document Processing Specialists regarding edits; keeping a log of the work and keeping the D.P. Supervisor informed of the status of each document; running comparisons on documents; and performing other assignments as needed.
Required - Bachelor's degree
- At least 2 years’ experience as a legal proofreader in a law firm
- Advanced knowledge of reading, spelling and grammar
- knowledge of proofreading symbols, legal terminology and blacklining; excellent communication and organizational skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Word; the ability to solve problems, meet strict deadlines and coordinate several activities at a time;
- The ability to work well under pressure; and the availability to work overtime as needed.
