The Successful Law Firm Marketing Employee Recruited

Our approach was to identify an individual who had started their career as a practicing attorney or paralegal and since transitioned into a marketing and/or business development role over the previous years.  Our past experience, recruiting law firm marketing professionals utilizing this profile, had met with great success.  Ultimately this profile profile brought forth a marketing professional ready to utilize their combined experience and writing skills to specialize in Business Proposals for new and existing clients.

The marketing professional identified, recruited and attracted had a prior title of Business Development & Communications vs. Marketing or Business Development. The candidate recruited was coming from a Firm running on a skeleton staff and external opportunities were the only option for career growth based on the candidate's specialization and interests.  Knowing the culture and O&D charting of diverse law firms helped bring this search to fruition.

The new Business Proposals Specialist had the unique background of starting a career as a Litigation Attorney affording a robust and intricate knowledge of case and client management, combined with three years of legal marketing, event and business development experience, this was an ideal addition to staff for the firm.

The process of candidate identification, recruitment, screening and attraction by Filcro was completed within 30 days.  After two rounds of interviewing with the firm’s Senior HR Generalist and two Department Managers an offer was extended and accepted.  The employee gave notice, passed a conflicts check and made the transition successfully to the new firm.

Client

A mid-sized international law firm with over 100 Partners and 700 employees across the globe.  The firm specializes in wealth planning and management services including handling a variety of Litigation, Tax, Investment, Real Estate and Commercial matters.

Client Situation

After trying to fill the position on their own with little success, the Firm searched for a recruitment company that specializes in legal marketing in the NYC area.  They found that our firm had successfully conducted similar searches and asked for our help.  They had a very short time line to fill the position due to an internal promotion within the department so needed to move quickly.

The Firm’s client base was comprised of some of the world’s wealthiest individuals, and as a result attracted a highly intelligent employee population with a white-gloved, service-oriented culture.  This required someone who was willing to roll up their sleeves to do the ground work but also who was capable of strategizing and identifying brand building ideas.

They needed a polished and highly professional Marketing Assistant to maintain the InterAction CRM database and provide general marketing assistance to a team of four US Marketing and Communications people.  Someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, flawless attention-to-detail, an enthusiastic and friendly personality and a strong sense of and commitment to confidentiality.

The Successful Law Firm Marketing Employee Recruited

Our approach was to identify an individual who had worked as a Legal Secretary or Paralegal in a small to mid-sized firm while they completed their Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or similar field. Someone with marketing internship experience as well as exposure to attorney/client management. An individual with this profile would have experience working with a centralized client relationship management database, had an opportunity to learn how a practice functions from a legal and business perspective and hopefully participated in ground level marketing efforts.  This knowledge combined with the desire to develop a career in marketing sets the perfect stage for a talented individual to transition and develop a career within a larger, global organization.

The marketing professional identified, recruited and attracted had a prior title of Legal Secretary at a National Law Firm.  Responsibilities included providing administrative, marketing and legal support to three Partners, working with a diverse client base on multibillion-dollar and multi-jurisdiction projects.  The candidate had daily usage and maintenance of the InterAction CRM database and worked hand in hand with the Partners for tracking clients, identifying cross-selling opportunities and developing presentation materials.  Our extensive knowledge of the legal support industry has taught us that Legal Secretaries, Paralegals and Assistants can have a wide range of responsibilities depending on the size and location of the firm structure and Partner focus.  This coupled with our strong technical acumen of the software allowed us screen the candidate, honing in on the relevant skills that the candidate possessed but originally did not feel was relevant to put on a resume.

Two rounds of interviewing occurred at the Firm level with the Sr. Human Resources & Recruitment Coordinator, Head of Marketing & Business Development, Marketing Communications Manager and NY Office Manager along with testing on InterAction/CRM Database Management,  Reading & Comprehension, Clerical Skills and Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.  The process of candidate identification, recruitment, screening and attraction by Filcro was completed and an offer accepted in writing within 30 days.  The employee was relocating to NYC so did not need to give notice but did successfully pass a background investigation and reference and conflicts check to be cleared to start.
